Project Overview
• Client: Qatar Energy
• Contractor: Midmac
Deployed Solutions:
• Dual Camera Series: The client requested a solution where one camera could simultaneously handle both time-lapse and live HD streaming. Our dual-camera series was perfectly suited to meet this requirement.
• High-Resolution Time-Lapse: The time-lapse camera was configured to capture high-quality images of the construction process over time.
• Live HD Streaming: The other camera was specifically designed for full HD live streaming, ensuring real-time, high-quality video feed of the construction progress.
• Solar-Powered Solution: The entire camera system was powered using solar energy, providing a sustainable and eco-friendly power source for the remote site.
• 24-Meter Customized Camera Tower: A custom-built tower, standing 24 meters tall, was constructed to house the cameras at the optimal height for full-site coverage.
• 4G Data SIM: The system utilized a 4G data SIM to provide seamless connectivity for both live streaming and time-lapse uploads.
• Wide-Angle Lens (3.2mm): To ensure comprehensive site coverage, the cameras were equipped with a wide-angle 3.2mm lens, offering a broader view of the entire project.
• Industrial Grade Hardware: Given the seaside location, all hardware used in the installation was industrial-grade, including IP66-rated housing to withstand harsh environmental conditions. The system was also fitted with surge arresters to protect against electrical surges.
Challenges
- Harsh Environmental Conditions:
The seaside location posed significant challenges for equipment durability. Saltwater exposure and extreme weather conditions could potentially damage standard cameras and hardware. - Dual-Functionality Requirement:
The client wanted a single camera solution that could perform two tasks: time-lapse photography and live HD streaming. This required careful integration to ensure both functions worked simultaneously without compromising image quality. - Site Accessibility:
The Epic Control Tower was located in a remote area, which made power supply and connectivity a challenge for constant monitoring.
Solutions Implemented
- Dual Camera Series for Multi-Functionality:
We installed our Dual Camera Series, enabling one camera to handle both high-resolution time-lapse and live HD streaming. This innovative solution addressed the client’s dual-functionality requirement while maintaining exceptional image quality. - Solar-Powered and Industrial-Grade Solutions:
Given the remote nature of the project and its seaside location, we equipped the system with solar-powered technology, ensuring an independent power supply. All hardware used was industrial-grade, including IP66-rated housing for the cameras, which provided weatherproofing and resistance to harsh environmental factors such as wind, rain, and saltwater exposure. - Wide-Angle Lens for Comprehensive Coverage:
We fitted the cameras with a 3.2mm wide-angle lens, providing a full view of the construction site from a single camera. This wide coverage ensured that all project details were captured in high resolution without needing multiple cameras. - 4G Connectivity:
A 4G data SIM ensured that live streaming and time-lapse updates could be easily transmitted in real time, regardless of the remote location. This solution eliminated the need for a wired connection and ensured continuous, uninterrupted video feeds. - Customized Camera Tower Design:
A 24-meter custom-built tower was designed and erected to elevate the cameras and offer a clear, wide-angle view of the entire construction site. This solution not only provided excellent coverage but also minimized any interference caused by surrounding obstacles.
Outcome
• Seamless Dual Functionality: The integration of both time-lapse photography and live streaming into one camera system delivered on the client’s requirements for real-time and historical site monitoring without the need for multiple setups.
• Reliable Performance in Harsh Conditions: The system’s industrial-grade hardware and IP66-rated housing proved to be highly effective in protecting the cameras from saltwater corrosion, high winds, and other environmental factors. The system performed flawlessly throughout the construction period.
• Sustainable Power Solution: The use of solar power allowed the cameras to operate autonomously, reducing operational costs and making the system an environmentally-friendly solution.
• Comprehensive Site Monitoring: With the wide-angle lens and custom-built tower, the cameras were able to provide a comprehensive view of the site, capturing every critical detail of the construction project in high resolution.
• Constant Connectivity: The 4G data SIM provided stable connectivity for live streaming and time-lapse updates, ensuring real-time monitoring of the project.
Widelapse successfully provided a robust and efficient solution for Qatar Energy’s Epic Control Tower project, combining cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and reliability.
